Expert Answers about Toyota ATV-UTV Tie Downs

  • Do All 4 UTV Wheels Need to be Strapped Down with Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160
  • I checked with Erickson and even their pictures show just two of the wheels being secured using the ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160. Basically you want to use all 4 of the chocks meaning you would secure 2 wheels. The rear wheels are recommended. If 1 set does not have the capacity for your UTV then you would need to use an additional set or additional tie downs (see link) to cover the whole weight of the UTV. A set has a safe working load limit of 1,500 pounds and a break strength...

  • Can More Than One Set of Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 Be Used for a UTV
  • There is definitely no issue in using 2 sets of the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160, one for the back and one for the front, to stabilize your UTV. If you look through the photos that other customers have sent in you can see that some people used one set while others used two. It really is just a matter of preference.

  • Can I Drive on the Horizontal E-Tracks with an ATV/UTV
  • Yes. The etrailer Horizontal E-Track - Galvanized Steel - 2,000 lbs - 8' Long # e62VR can be driven on without any issue and have a maximum capacity of up to 6000-lbs each(break strength), so they'll be able to handle your ATV/UTV without issue. You can use the Erickson Adjustable Wheel Net with E-Track Fittings - 1,166 lbs # 77314 as your wheel straps if you don't already have some. I've linked some review videos of these parts for you to have a look at.

  • Does the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 Have to be In-Line with Direction of Travel
  • You can use the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 to help secure your ATV but you really need something securing your ATV in the direction of travel. You could put some Horizontal E-Track like part # E19148 in-line with the direction of travel and do a kind of criss-cross pattern over your ATV with straps like part # EM59136 to help secure it, but Erickson does not recommend securing the load only using a straps that are not with the direction of travel. As long as your trailer...

  • What Hardware Should I Use to Install Erickson E-Tracks
  • Yes. A 304 or 18-8 bolt (which have the same makeup) will be sufficient to mount the Erickson E-Tracks and carry your 1700-lbs UTV. I would also recommend using a the E-Track Backing Plate # e96RR to add strength and improve tie-down support. If you also need some wheel chocks that fit in these E-tracks, the Erickson E-Chock Wheel Chock # EM09162-2 make a great addition to your new E-track setup since they fit directly into the Erickson E-tracks and provide a solution to eliminate movement...

  • How Many of Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 Per ATV and Can 3K Tractor Run Over Chocks
  • You would not have to use Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 for each wheel on both ATVs. You can do just the rear wheels on each or one in the front and one in the back on opposite sides which another customer wanted to do. If you have 2 per ATV you will be good. The tractor probably won't cause any problems with the chocks but they aren't meant to be run over by such as heavy vehicle. Still only a portion of the tractor's weight would be on a chock so I am not concerned about...

  • Could the BoatBuckle Cargo Tie Downs # IMF08893 Secure an ATV in a Trailer
  • You could use the BoatBuckle Cargo Tie Downs # IMF08893 to secure an ATV to a trailer. These have more than enough capacity at 833 lbs of capacity per strap. These permanently mount to your trailer with 1 bolt, mounting hardware is included. The buckles are sewn to the strap so there wouldn't be a way to reverse the direction the hooks face.

  • Can I Use One Erickson ATV E-Track Tie Down Kit # EM09160 for Different Wheel Sizes?
  • For the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit w/ Ratchet Straps and Wheel Chocks - 1,500 lbs # EM09160, you need one kit per tire size. If the chocks are not snug to hold a tire, there will be movement of the tires. You want the chocks as tight as possible when transporting your ATVs with different tire sizes. It is also important to note that mounting hardware is not included in these kits. We recommend using grade 5 carriage-style bolts.

  • Is Backing Plate Needed to Mount Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit to an Aluminum Trailer
  • If you can bolt the chocks of the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 to some main support beams under the floor of your aluminum trailer then you would not have to use a backing plate. But if you need to attach them to the floor where there are no supports then you would need to use a backing plate, # e96RR. The backing plate will disperse the force applied to the chocks over a wider area. The chocks are painted which will help with galvanic corrosion (because of the dissimilar...

  • Can Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit EM09160 Be Used on Front Wheels of ATV
  • The Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 is intended to secure your trailered 4-wheeled vehicle at the rear tires. The chocks are to be mounted in front of and behind the rear wheels as shown in the linked video and photo. If they were installed on the front tires the rear of the vehicle could lift up off the trailer deck in a hard-braking situation.

  • Is Steel Backing Plate Needed to Install Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit
  • The installation method you mention for the # EM09160 Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit should be sufficient to hold down your 800 lb ATV, but I'd personally feel better if you could tie in to a metal crossmember under the trailer decking or use a backing plate like # e96RR. The backing plate is made by a different manufacturer so the holes won't match up perfectly. You'll need to drill a new set of holes in each plate. I'm a big believer in overkill, and by using a backing plate, you'll...

  • To Which Wheels Should Pack'Em Wheel Tie-Down Kit # PK-WTD be Attached
  • I agree and that is what I would do as well: one at the front and one at the back on opposite sides. Using the Pack'Em Wheel Tie-Down Kit # PK-WTD in this manner will make it more stable than having both tie downs on the same side. I have linked a video review of this part for you.

  • Can the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit EM09160 Wheel Chocks Be Split Across Axles
  • Instead of splitting the wheel chocks and straps of one Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 across the ATV's two axles I suggest using two kits. The modest price of this Erickson tie-down kit means using two will not cost too much, but doing so will not only provide a much bigger safety margin relative to the weight of your ATV, but also allow that at other times when you're using the trailer for standard cargo items you will have multiple attachment points you can use along with...

  • Recommended Hardware for Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit
  • The correct screw/bolt size for the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM98CV is 1/4". The best hardware will depend on your exact application and the material and thickness you're attaching these too. If your mounting surface is no more than 2" thick I would consider using the etrailer E-Track Backing Plates w/ Hardware # e66RR to keep your wheel chocks secure.

  • Parts Needed to Install Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit EM09160 on Steel Grid Trailer Deck
  • Yes, you absolutely can mount the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 to a trailer with a steel grid deck. All you'll want to do is add two of the steel backing plate, part # e96RR, to ensure the load is well distributed across the deck material. I suggest you select stainless steel or galvanized nuts/bolts to install the E-Track wheel chocks and backing plates.

  • Using The E-Track Trailer Cargo Control # EM59150 On Trailer To Secure ATVs and Motorcycles
  • Installing the E-Track Trailer Cargo Control, part # EM59150, would work well to strap down your ATVs and motorcycles on your V-nose trailer. You could mount the E-Track sideways or perpendicular to the trailer frame over the floor as you described. The E-Track can also be mounted on the wall of trailers, so perhaps you could mount the track for the ATVs on the floor towards the front of the trailer. Then you could mount track on the trailer walls for the motorcycles or on the floor as...

  • Can the Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit be Installed Diagonally
  • I contacted Erikson and they told me the straps of the ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit # EM09160 should not be used diagonally, and that it is illegal to do so. You might contact your local DOT to check this for your specific area. Erikson also verified that as long as what you are securing is within the 1500 lbs. safe working load limit of the E-Track you do not need to strap down the other end.

  • Can Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit be Mounted to a 2x10 Board in a Toy Hauler
  • there is nothing that would prevent you from installing the E-Track tie down system # EM09160 in the manner you have described. But since the board is not permanently secured to the floor of the toy hauler there is the possibility of some unwanted movement. Something you might consider is an axle strap such as # BDW20229. So if you had a D-ring or tie down point in the center of the toy hauler forward of the golf cart you could center the cart and use the axle strap.
